THOMAS MATTHEW VOORHEES

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Dear Mrs. Voorhees

I am extremely thankful for the scholarship you offered me.  It will help me greatly during the college.

That night when I came to the ceremony at Centennial High School, I was very surprised to hear my name being called for the Thomas Matthew Voorhees Scholarship.  I say that, because I had sent the application a couple of weeks before the ceremony.  With my mom’s help and a little bit of push, I finally got everything done on time.

I had the opportunity to know little bit about Tommy four years ago.  I remember the first day of my freshmen year at Centennial High School, going into the main office and seeing Tommy’s picture on the wall, by the door.  One of my teachers told me about Tommy, and how much he liked the school.  This gave me encouragement.  I promised to myself that I would like to do as good as Tommy did in school, and not to give up.

Thank you once again for the help you provided when I needed it the most.  I promise that I will work hard, keep my grades up and graduate from college successfully.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

We would like to take this opportunity to thank every student that applied for the Thomas Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarship.” This award is presented in memory of our son Tommy, who graduated at Centennial High School in June of 2000 and who died of cancer August 4, 2000.

Class of 2003, Time moves very quickly. One minute you are a child playing in the sand, the next minute you are a high school graduate. You are now starting the journey of your life. Always remember to take time to enjoy where you are each moment of your life. If I could pass on one piece of advice, it would be to enjoy everyday and take time to celebrate your accomplishments, you deserve it.

This year we had a number of applicants. It was very hard for us to choose the recipient of this award. With the help of the guidance department we were able to make our decision. This is the Third Annual Scholarship Award in Memory of our son Tommy and the fourth scholarship. This year the Third annual Tommy Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarship goes to Gary Balcolmbe in the amount of $1,000.00.

2002
THOMAS MATTHEW VOORHEES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

We would like to take this opportunity to thank every student that applied for the “Thomas Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarship.”

We would also like to take this time to thank the present; past and future Centennial graduates that participated in the “Relay for Life” Cancer walk. Our team was named the “Danger Squad” in memory of Tommy. You were all wonderful and we met our goal with all your support. And for the Relay for Life Talent Show, our team came in second, but you are number one in our hearts. Our family is greatly moved by the number of people who reached out in support of such a great cause, with love, and how they still truly miss and cared so much for Tommy.

We would also like to take this time to congratulate the baseball team for a job well done. One of Tommy’s favorite sports was baseball. I can remember, when Mark and Tommy would play baseball in my back yard. They would take our patio table and turn it on its side, so that it would stop the balls that were missed. I always had two spots in the grass that didn’t grow, but they always had a great time; and Mark, I know Tommy is very proud of you.

We would also like to thank everyone that has visited Tommy’s web site and the kind words you have written. Tommy now has his own web site: www.tommydanger.com.. His web site has now been updated with the Relay for Life pictures. Please feel free to visit and write often.

We would like to thank all Tommy’s friends who continue to come over and visit with us. You will never know how much this really means to us.

Class of 2002, Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through these tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your brothers and/or sisters, maybe a coach, but mostly your friends. God puts us in each other’s live to impact one another in some way. “Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.” There is no beginning or end…Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. Please remember to thank those people today.

This year we had a number of applicants. It was very hard for us to choose the recipient of this award. With the help of the guidance department we were able to make our decision. There were two very special people that we felt really needed our help. So this year we would like to award TWO Scholarships. The second annual Tommy Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarships go to Amy Michele Lane and Edzer Beaucejour in the amount of $1,000.00 each.

Mr. and Mrs. Voorhees:

I do want you to know how extremely appreciative I am for the scholarship. It means so very much to me, although it hurts me to know the reasoning behind it. I really wish i could have known Tommy a little better, but I can tell he came from a very loving family. I admire both of you for being so strong! Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams, and for giving me the chance to be a part of something so great. I hope to come and see you soon, take care and God bless you !!

Thank you so much again

Amy Lane

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Voorhees:

I wrote you this note to let you know how grateful I am for you giving me this Scholarship Award. It means so much to me. I am very grateful for what you have done. I am very sorry I did not make it the night of the scholarship awards.
I will try my best (as Usual) to maintain a good average G.P.A. to prove to you that I really appreciate your help, and your money will not be wasted. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Edzer Beaucejour

PS Tommy is smiling from Heaven.

Thomas Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarship
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Voorhees:

Being the recipient of the Thomas Matthew Voorhees Memorial Scholarship is a great privilege and honor.  This scholarship was a blessing since my father is presently unemployed and this will be a tremendous benefit in helping us meet the expenses of my college education.  As much as I am thankful to have this scholarship I would give it all up if I could change the reason behind the creation of the scholarship.  Tommy and I were never really close friends, but I do know that when I was around him he had an enlightening aura that showered happiness and encouragement.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and may God bless you and give you peace for we will all miss Tommy and his easy hearted perception on life.  Tommy will be missed and will never be forgotten.

Sincerely yours,
Christopher Pfaff
